    Tasmanian Coat of Arms

    The Tasmanian Coat of Arms is the most prestigious branding devices available to the Tasmanian Government and agencies. As such, restrictions apply to its use and reproduction.

    The Tasmanian Coat of Arms may also be referred to as the Tasmanian Crest.

    All requests to use the Tasmanian Coat of Arms, including using it alongside federal and other state and territory insignia, must be made in writing to:

    Protocol Unit
    Department of Premier and Cabinet
    Email: protocol@dpac.tas.gov.au

    Requests must be accompanied by the proposed artwork/placement of the Coat of Arms.

    Please note, the use of the Tasmanian Coat of Arms for commercial purposes or advertising is generally not permitted.

    Appropriate use of the Tasmanian Coat of Arms

    The Tasmanian Coat of Arms may be used:

    • by the Premier or their representative on official invitations to functions and events when representing Tasmania domestically and internationally.
    • by the Supreme Court of Tasmania, the Magistrates’ Court of Tasmania, the Children’s Court of Tasmania and the Coroners' Court of Tasmania for the purposes of corporate branding, publications, official documents, websites and stationery.

    Inappropriate use of the Tasmanian Coat of Arms

    The Tasmanian Coat of Arms must not:

    • appear more than once in a publication;
    • appear at the bottom of a page;
    • be positioned next to branding or any other logos, but it can appear on the same document or publication (i.e., Tasmanian Coat of Arms can be on the top left of the page and other logos can be printed at the bottom of the same page);
    • be presented as a stylised version or other artistic interpretation.  Only the authorised image is permitted;
    • be used for commercial purposes, including gifts, souvenirs or collector’s items, or on any sporting apparel or uniform;
    • be used by any person or organisation other than the Tasmanian Government.

    Placement of the Tasmanian Coat of Arms

    • The Tasmanian Coat of Arms must be professionally displayed and appear in a prominent position where it can be readily seen.
    • For publications, the Tasmanian Coast of Arms must appear on the front cover (top half of page).
    • For official documents, the Tasmanian Coat of Arms should be placed on the top half of the first page.
    • No wording or illustration should appear above or before the Tasmanian Coat of Arms.
    • No other brand device or logo should be positioned next to the Tasmanian Coat of Arms.
    • If a Tasmanian Government department or body’s logo also appears on the cover of a publication, it must be subordinate to the Tasmanian Coat of Arms.  This also applies to official documents where both the Coat of Arms and brand device or logo appear together on the same page.

    Design specifications of the Tasmanian Coat of Arms

    Colours

    • The Coat of Arms can be reproduced either in black or full colour.
    • There are no particular PMS (Pantone Matching System) numbers for the colours specified in the heraldic descriptions of the Coat of Arms.
    • Azure (blue) must be clearly depicted as blue and not any other colour then this is heraldically correct.
    • Where communication material is in a single colour, the Coat of Arms can be printed in that colour, upon approval.

    Clear space

    • Clear space is an exclusion zone surrounding the Coat of Arms where no other text or graphics may appear.
    • The amount of clear space that must be allowed around the Coat of Arms is equal to twice the height of the ribbon arc.  The ribbon arc is located at the bottom of the Coat of Arms and contains the Latin motto “Ubertas et Fidelitas” which translates as “fruitfulness and Faithfulness”.  This is a scalable measurement – the clear space increases with the size of the Coat of Arms.

    Size

    • The minimum width of the Coat of Arms is 20mm.
