As a graduate in the Tasmanian State Service Graduate Development Program (TasGrad), you’ll contribute to the policies, programs and services that support communities across Tasmania. From day one, you’ll be part of work that matters, helping to shape the future of our state.

When does the program start?

The next program will start in February 2027, with the structured learning element of the program commencing in March 2027.

Do I get to choose my agency or work area?

Your agency placement will be determined by your area of study and best fit for the role. While you won’t get to choose your agency or work area, there may be an opportunity for you to rotate to different areas throughout the program.

In the case that you are the top candidate for more than one graduate position; you will be given a choice as to where you would prefer to work.

Will I have permanent employment?

All TasGrad roles are fixed-term for a period of two years.

Throughout the program, you’ll receive support, coaching, and training to help you prepare for future opportunities. The skills and experience you gain through TasGrad will provide a strong foundation for the next steps in your career.

Can I work part-time?

Yes, the TSS offers flexible working arrangements. You can discuss any working arrangement during the Agency interview stage.

Is my degree relevant?

Graduates from all academic disciplines are eligible for the program. Refer to the Australian Classification of Education (ASCED) Field of Education Types to see what category your degree fits in.

Do you offer a relocation allowance?

No, we are unable to provide assistance for relocation costs.

Do you accept applications from international students?

Yes, however, you must have permanent residency or a visa with full-time working rights that is valid for the duration of the program. Visit the Department of Home Affairs website for more information.

Please note that we are unable to offer sponsorship of a visa.

I have a disability. What adjustments can I expect during recruitment?

If you require additional support to complete the assessment process, you can request an adjustment throughout each step of the recruitment process. You will have the opportunity to note this through your online application and one of our Graduate Recruitment Coordinators will get in touch to let you know what each stage of the assessment involves and discuss your needs.

Can I complete the Tasmanian Legal Practice course while participating in TasGrad?

If you are successful in gaining a TasGrad position, you will need to complete all the formal learning and development elements in the program. Any additional study will need to be discussed with your employing agency.
