As the central agency of the Tasmanian Government, the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPAC) provides stewardship of the Tasmanian State Service and leads major whole-of-government policy, reform and coordination efforts.
We work closely with the public sector, communities, local councils, the Australian Government and other states and territories to help shape and deliver the government's priorities into the best possible outcomes for Tasmanians.
We provide public policy services through analysing challenges facing our community, designing practical solutions, and learning from what does and doesn’t work. We coordinate work across government, including partnerships with other governments, to address large-scale, complex issues, and give policy advice to the Premier and Cabinet.
DPAC has important statutory responsibilities. We are the statutory employer for the Tasmanian State Service, setting employment policy and issuing Employment Directions. We also have statutory responsibilities under the Local Government Act, which sets out the core functions of local councils.
What we do, every day, connects back to improve life for Tasmanians.
Our values guide how we work and treat each other. We aim for excellence in everything we do, we maintain a customer focus by keeping customers at the centre of our work, we work together to achieve better results, and through it all, we are professional, acting with integrity, accountability and transparency.
DPAC is a forward-looking and dynamic agency. We offer challenging and rewarding opportunities to people from all backgrounds, and reward performance with real pathways.
Working at the centre of government gives you a unique view of Tasmania and its future. Our role advising the Premier and Cabinet means our employees are closely connected to decisions that impact Tasmanians. It’s for those who care about this meaningful place, and the people who live here.
We have a range of programs that help employees stay healthy and achieve a better work/life balance, from flexible working arrangements and family friendly incentives to health and wellbeing activities.
If you care about Tasmania and want to make a difference, we invite you to help shape its future and do meaningful work for a meaningful place.
