The Department of Health (DoH) delivers services that improve the health, safety and wellbeing of every Tasmanian.
We oversee a wide range of services and systems that meet the diverse needs of the public. This includes the Tasmanian Health Service (THS), our service delivery arm, which provides public hospital, medical, community and aged care, oral health and mental health services.
Collaboration is central to our approach. We focus on building and maintaining strong, well-governed health systems that Tasmanians can trust, and we do this by working alongside our communities and clients.
Our decisions are informed by evidence-based data, and this helps us deliver effective and innovative services that make an impact. We monitor the performance of the Tasmanian public health system through the services delivered by the THS and regularly publish statistics through our Health Dashboards. This helps us track performance, respond to key areas, and focus on the most important priorities for Tasmanians.
We act as both a caretaker and collaborator in making sure health services run smoothly. It is our job to monitor systems to ensure their overall health, implement the strategic direction for these systems, and continuously improve their quality of care.
Our work is guided by principles that keep community at our centre. This includes a focus on client needs, effective governance, intelligent decision-making, and strategic collaboration. We believe in strong leadership and creating a culture that supports growth and innovation.
Working with DoH is an opportunity to do meaningful work in a meaningful place. You’ll help shape the future of healthcare on this beautiful island, while making deep connections with colleagues and community.
We offer competitive salary packages, work/life balance, paid and supported training, assistance with relocation and special accommodation allowance for certain roles. We want your transition to DoH, and if applicable, to Tasmania, as smooth and welcoming as possible.
At DoH, we are committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcome, safe and supported. We value the unique experiences, knowledge and skills that each employee brings to their work, and we work to create a respectful and trustworthy environment for all.
