Marking one year of Tasmania's plan to lift literacy
Just over one year ago the Lifting Literacy Outcomes Monitoring Group (LLOMG) was created to independently monitor progress and outcomes of the Tasmanian Governments Lifting Literacy Implementation Plan (2024-2026) and its aspiration to reach 100% literacy in Tasmania.
Beginning in 2024, work began in schools across Tasmania, and other important settings, to implement the actions set out in the 3-year plan. The LLOMG has marked this milestone by sharing reflections about progress and messages of encouragement in an article appearing in the Mercury newspaper.
The article highlights how at the centre of the plan to lift literacy is the introduction of the structured literacy approach to teach students how to read and write.
The LLOMG calls attention to this major transformation happening in classrooms across the state. The LLOMG congratulates the Tasmanian schooling sectors and community for embracing the significant changes and highlights positive received feedback from classroom teachers who are implementing the new approach.
