St Therese’s Primary School Showcases Literacy Excellence
The Lifting Literacy Outcomes Monitoring Group (LLOMG) had the opportunity to see literacy learning in action when it held its September meeting at St Therese’s Catholic School in Moonah.
During the visit, the group met with the principal and teaching staff to discuss the school’s strong commitment to improving literacy outcomes.
They observed classroom practices in Prep and Grade 1, gaining insight into how evidence-based literacy instruction is being delivered.
LLOMG Chair Dr Michele Bruniges praised the school’s efforts.
“It’s inspiring to see the literacy learning in action here at St Therese’s,” Dr Bruniges said.
“The commitment from staff and leadership to improving literacy outcomes is commendable.”
St Therese’s is part of Catholic Education Tasmania’s Literate Learners for Life initiative, launched in 2022.
This approach is grounded in the science of learning and aligns with the state’s Lifting Literacy Implementation Plan 2024–2026, which requires all Tasmanian schools to adopt structured, evidence-based literacy instruction and a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Established by the Premier, the LLOMG meets quarterly and reports twice a year on progress toward Tasmania’s literacy goals.
Their visit to St Therese’s reflects the groups broader commitment to connect with schools and organisations that are supporting the lifting literacy reforms.
