NOTICE OF THE MINIMUM SIZE LIMIT OF CONTROLLED FISH HELIOCIDARIS ERYTHROGRAMMA FOR THE COMMERCIAL DIVE FISHERY

I, Dr Ian Dutton, General Manager (Marine Resources) in the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister for Primary Industries and Water hereby determine under rule 13 of the Fisheries (Commercial Dive) Rules 2021 (the Rules):

A.  That the minimum size limit for the shortspined sea urchin (species Heliocidaris erythrogramma)is 80 millimetres, measured as the maximum diameter of the individual urchin test (excluding spines), and this is to be effective within the commercial dive fishery from 12:01 am 1 September 2023.

Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice.

This notice has the effect of increasing the size limit of shortspined sea urchinsfrom 75mm to 80mm from 1 September 2023. This is part of arrangements to control the total amount of shortspined sea urchins harvested in the interest of resource sustainability.
