Fisheries (Commercial Dive) Rules 2021
NOTICE OF THE DATES OF THE CLOSED SEASON FOR THE COMMERCIAL DIVE FISHERY AND NOTICE OF COMMERCIAL DIVE FISHERY CLOSURE TO SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
I, Dr David Midson, General Manager (Marine Resources) in the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister administering the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 (the Act), hereby determine under rule 12 of the Fisheries (Commercial Dive) Rules 2021 (the Rules):
- That the dates of the closed season for those parts of the commercial dive fishery specified in schedule 1 are from 12:01 am 3 October 2025 until further notice; and
- That the parts of the commercial dive fishery specified in schedule 1 are closed to, or in respect of, the activities specified in schedule 2.
SCHEDULE 1
All that part of the commercial dive fishery in State waters in the D’Entrecasteaux Channel within an area bounded by an imaginary line running from the high water mark closest to the point of latitude 43°19’36”S, longitude 147°04’20”E at Blubber Head, then running directly to the high water mark closest to the point of latitude 43°19’46”S, longitude 147°14’21”E at Mays Creek, then following the line of high water generally north to the high water mark closest to the point of latitude 43°04’02.6S, longitude 147°20’59.4”E at Boulder Point, then running directly to the high water mark closest to the point of latitude 43°03’12”S, longitude 147°20’28”E at Piersons Point, then following the line of high water generally south to the point of commencement.
SCHEDULE 2
While on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking controlled fish including shortspined sea urchins (species Heliocidaris erythrogramma), longspined sea urchins (species Centrostephanus rodgersii), and periwinkles (species Lunella undulata) the holder of a fishing licence (commercial dive) must not enter the water by swimming or diving.
Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice.
All coordinates of latitude and longitude specified in this notice are to be determined by reference to the Geocentric Datum of Australia (also known as "the GDA" or "GDA94") as defined in the Commonwealth Gazette No. GN 35, 6 September 1995.

This notice has the effect of closing the commercial dive fishery to the take of urchins and periwinkles in the D’Entrecasteaux Channel area of the South-Eastern fishery part, inclusive of sub-block 15, from Friday 3rd October 2025 until further notice. This is part of arrangements to take account of community needs, interests, and expectations with regards to an area of active biotoxin activity.
