NOTICE OF THE DATES OF THE CLOSED SEASON FOR THE COMMERCIAL BLACKLIP ABALONE FISHERY AND NOTICE OF ABALONE FISHERY CLOSURE TO SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
I, Dr David Midson, General Manager (Marine Resources) in the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister administering the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 (the Act), hereby determine under rule 9 of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 (the Rules):
- That the dates of the closed season for those parts of the commercial Blacklip Abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are from 12:01 am 6 July 2026; and
- That the parts of the commercial Blackip Abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are closed to, or in respect of, the activities specified in schedule 2.
SCHEDULE 1
All that part of the commercial Blacklip Abalone fishery in State waters in the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Derwent River region within an area bounded bounded in the north by an imaginary straight line downstream of Lyell Hwy from latitude 42°46’43”S and longitude 147°03’23”E to latitude 42°46’46”S and longitude 147°03’25”E, and following the line of highwater generally south to Piersons Point at the point of latitude 43°03’12”S and longitude 147°20’28”E, then following the line of highwater generally south to the high-water mark of Blubber Head at latitude 43°19’35.9”S and longitude 147°04’19.8”E then following the line of high-water generally south-west to the high-water mark at Burnett Point, then running directly to the high-water mark of Hopwood Point at latitude 43°25’10.1”S and longitude147°05’31.7”E, then following the line of high-water generally north-east to Mays Creek at the point of latitude 43°19’46”S and longitude 147°14’21”E, then following the line of high water generally north to the high-water mark of Kellys Point at latitude 43°03'50”S and longitude 147°21'29”E, then running in an approximately east diection to a point of latitide 43°04'04”S and longitude 147°27'18"E, then running due north to the line of high water at Hope Beach at the point of latitude 43°02'02”S and longitude 147°27'17"E, then following the line of highwater in a generally north-west direction to include Ralphs Bay and the Derwent Estuary to the point of commencement.
SCHEDULE 2
While on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking Blacklip Abalone (species Haliotis rubra) the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) must not enter the water by swimming or diving.
All coordinates of latitude and longitude specified in this notice are to be determined by reference to the Geocentric Datum of Australia (also known as "the GDA" or "GDA94") as defined in the Commonwealth Gazette No. GN 35, 6 September 1995.
Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice.

This notice has the effect of closing the commercial Blacklip Abalone fishery in State waters of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Derwent River areas in the Eastern zone of the fishery inclusive of sub-blocks 14B and 14C and blocks 15 and 18 from 12:01 am Monday 6 July 2026 until further notice.
