NOTICE OF THE DATES OF THE CLOSED SEASON FOR THE COMMERCIAL GREENLIP FISHERY AND NOTICE OF ABALONE FISHERY CLOSURE TO SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES

I, Dr David Midson, General Manager (Marine Resources) in the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister administering the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 (the Act), hereby determine under rule 9 of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 (the Rules):
A. That the dates of the closed season for those parts of the commercial Greenlip Abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are from 12:01 am 1 January 2026 to 11:59 pm 28 June 2026; and

B. That the parts of the abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are closed to, or in respect of,
the activities specified in schedule 2.

SCHEDULE 1
All that part of the commercial Greenlip Abalone fishery in State waters off the north-east coast
of Tasmania enclosed by an imaginary line commencing where the line of longitude 147°47’01.46” East meets the high watermark on mainland Tasmania at Tomahawk Beach then running due north to where it meets the line of latitude 40°39’South, then running due east to the line of longitude 148°33’31.88” East, then following that line of longitude due south to the line of latitude 40°59’47.10” South, then following that line of latitude due west to the high water mark near Eddystone Point, then following the line of high water generally north-west to the point of commencement.

SCHEDULE 2
While on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking Greenlip Abalone
(species Haliotis laevigata) the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) must not enter the
water by swimming or diving.

All coordinates of latitude and longitude specified in this notice are to be determined by
reference to the Geocentric Datum of Australia (also known as "the GDA" or "GDA94") as defined in the Commonwealth Gazette No. GN 35, 6 September 1995.

Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice.

This notice has the effect of closing the commercial Greenlip Abalone fishery in the north-east
coast of Tasmania, inclusive of sub-blocks 31A, 31B, 39A, and 39B, from Thursday 1 January 2026 until 28 June 2026 inclusive. This is part of arrangements to control the total amount of Greenlip Abalone harvested in the interest of resource sustainability
