The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) was established in 2022 to deliver better outcomes for all Tasmanian children and young people, especially our most vulnerable. The Department is responsible for Public Education, Child and Family Learning Centres, Libraries, Child Safety, Out of Home Care, and Youth Justice. DECYP provides services to help all Tasmanians to learn, no matter their age, their background or where they live. It also delivers statewide policy, programs and services to support and improve the safety and wellbeing of Tasmanian children, young people, families, carers and our staff.

The Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management (DPFEM) provides policing, fire and emergency management services to the Tasmanian community. The Department of Premier and Cabinet is the central agency of the Tasmanian State Government. It provides a broad range of services to Cabinet, other members of Parliament, Government Agencies and the community. The Department works closely with the public sector, the community, local government, the Australian Government and other state and territory governments to: • Deliver programs to improve the wellbeing of Tasmanians • Deliver government information and services • Provide public policy services • Lead and coordinate whole-of-government initiatives • Administer statutory responsibilities.
