NOTICE OF THE TOTAL ALLOWABLE COMMERCIAL CATCH FOR THE SHELLFISH FISHERY

I, Rachel McKay, Acting General Manager (Marine Resources) in the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister administering the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 (the Act), and pursuant to section 94(2) of the Act, hereby determine under rule 7 of the Fisheries (Shellfish) Rules 2017 (the Rules):

  1. The total allowable commercial catch of native oysters (molluscan bivalves of the species Ostrea angasi) that may be taken in the period from 12:01 am 1 September 2026 to 11:59 pm 31 August 2027 is 20,046 dozen divided evenly between each fishing licence (native oyster – Georges Bay), and this is to be taken from the fishery part defined in the Rules as Georges Bay; and
  2. The total allowable commercial catch of Venerupis clams (molluscan bivalves of the genus Venerupis) that may be taken in the period from 12:01 am 1 September 2026 to 11:59 pm 31 August 2027 is 840 kilograms divided evenly between each fishing licence (clam – Georges Bay North), and this is to be taken from the fishery part defined in the Rules as Georges Bay North Clam Zone; and

Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice.

All coordinates of latitude and longitude specified in this notice are to be determined by reference to the Geocentric Datum of Australia (also known as "the GDA" or "GDA94") as defined in the Commonwealth Gazette No. GN 35, 6 September 1995.

This notice has the effect of setting the total allowable catches for native oysters and Venerupis clams for the shellfish fishery from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027. This is part of arrangements to control the total amount of native oysters and venus clams commercially harvested in the interest of resource sustainability.
