NOTICE OF THE DATES OF THE CLOSED SEASON FOR A PART OF THE COMMERCIAL DIVE FISHERY

AND

 NOTICE OF COMMERCIAL DIVE FISHERY CLOSURE TO SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES

 

I, Dr Ian Dutton, General Manager (Marine Resources) in the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister for Primary Industries and Water made on 13 July 2022 and acting pursuant to section 20(1) of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 (the Act), hereby determine under rule 12 of the Fisheries (Commercial Dive) Rules 2021 (the Rules):

A.    That the dates of the closed season for those parts of the commercial dive fishery specified in schedule 1 are from 12:01 am 13 October 2022 to 12:01 am 31 August 2023; and

 

B.     That the parts of the commercial dive fishery specified in schedule 1 are closed to, or in respect of, the activities specified in schedule 2.

 

SCHEDULE 1

All that part of the commercial dive fishery known as Coles Bay, being that area of State water enclosed by an imaginary line running from Point Bagot at lat 42°05'58"S long 148°13'57"E to the point at lat 42°18'48"S long 148°08'21"E, then running due east to the line of high water at lat 42°18'42"S long 148°14'10"E, then following the line of high water in an approximately north-east direction to Passage Point at lat 42°17'32"S long 148°17'45"E, then running due north to the line of high water at lat 42°16'59"S long 148°17'44"E, then following the line of high water in an approximately north-west direction straight to the point of commencement.

 

SCHEDULE 2

While on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking short-spined sea urchin (species Heliocidaris erythrogramma) the holder of a fishing licence (commercial dive) must not enter the water by swimming or diving.

 

 

Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice. All coordinates used in this notice are specified in GDA94.

This notice has the effect of closing the commercial dive fishery to the take of short-spined sea urchin in the Coles Bay catch-capped area, sub-blocks 26B, 26C, and 26D from Thursday 13 October 2022 until the end of season, 31 August 2023. This is part of arrangements to control the total amount of short-spined sea urchins harvested in the interest of resource sustainability.
