​Notice – Revocation and dates of closing of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off the north-east and north-west coasts of Tasmania
Rule 9(1) of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017

 

Pursuant to the powers under the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 ("the Rules") that were delegated to the Director (Marine Resources) on 5 January 2018 by the Minister acting pursuant to section 20(1) of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 ("the Act"), under rule 9(1) of the Rules:

 

  1. I hereby revoke, on and from 26 June 2018, the public notice titled Dates of closing of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off the north-east and north-west coasts of Tasmania published in Gazette number 21762 on Wednesday 20 December 2017;
  2. I also determine that the date of closing of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off the north-east and north-west coasts of Tasmania to the activities of the take of greenlip abalone (Haliotis laevigata) by the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) is as follows:from 26 June 2018, inclusive; and
  3. I also determine that, from the date stated in 2. above, the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) while on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking greenlip abalone (Haliotis laevigata) must not enter the water, by swimming or diving, in the closed area stated in 2. above;

where “State waters off the north-east and north-west coasts of Tasmania” is defined to mean: State waters off the north-east and north-west coasts of Tasmania enclosed by an imaginary line commencing where the line of longitude 144° 51’ 01.60” East meets the high watermark on mainland Tasmania (~ at point of latitude 40° 44’ 20.02” South) then running due north to where it meets the line of latitude 40° 40’ 50” South, then running due east to the line of longitude 145o 06’ 17.51” East, then following that line of longitude due north to the line of latitude 40o 17’ 25” South, then running due west to the line of longitude 144o 26’ 19.03” East, then running due south to the line of latitude 42o 08’ 29.06” South, then running due east to the line of longitude 148o 36’ 40.69” East, then running due north to the line of latitude 40° 39’ South, then running due west to the line of longitude 147o 30’ 48.94” East, then running due south to the high water mark in Anderson Bay, then following the line of high water generally west to the point of commencement.


Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice as it has in the Act or the Rules.

INFORMATION

The present commercial greenlip abalone fishery closure in State waters off the north-east and north-west coasts of Tasmania is being altered. Blocks 32 and 33 in the area of Clarke Island will open to commercial fishing for greenlip abalone on and from 26 June 2018. The following blocks continue to be closed for commercial greenlip fishing: in the north-west, fishing blocks 48 (excluding sub-block 48A), 49 and 5 and down the west coast, and in the north-east, blocks 31, 39, 40 and down the east coast.
