King Island commercial greenlip closure 3 Sept 2018

Notice - Dates of closure of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off the coast of King Island

 

Rule 9(1) of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017

 

Pursuant to the powers under the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 ("the Rules") that were delegated to the Director (Marine Resources) on 2 July 2018 by the Minister acting pursuant to section 20(1) of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 ("the Act"), under rule 9(1) of the Rules:

 

1.    I determine that the dates of closure of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off the coast of King Island to the activities of the take of greenlip abalone (Haliotis laevigata) by the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) are as follow:

 

from 3 September 2018 to 31 December 2018 inclusive; and

 

2.    I also determine that, from the date stated in 1. above, the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) while on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking greenlip abalone (Haliotis laevigata) must not enter the water, by swimming or diving, in the closed area stated in 1. above;

 

where “State waters off the coast of King Island" is defined to mean: State waters off the coast of King Island enclosed by an imaginary line commencing where the line of longitude 143° 56' 54.46" East meets the high water mark at Cape Wickham, then following that line of longitude due north to the line of latitude 39° 30' 39.28" South, then running due west to the line of longitude 143° 44' 42.52" East, then running due south to the line of latitude 40° 15' 14.26" South, then running due east to the line of longitude 144° 12' 09.15" East, then running due north to the line of latitude 39° 58' 36.61" South, then running due west to the high water mark at Cumberland Light, then following the line of high water in a generally south-west and then northerly direction back to the point of commencement.

 

Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice as it has in the Act or the Rules.

INFORMATION

The remainder of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off the coast of King Island is being closed from 3 September 2018 until 31 December 2018 inclusive in the interest of resource sustainability. The closure includes sub-blocks 1A, 1B, 1C, 3A, 3B, 3C, 4B and 4C only.
