Notice - Dates of closing of the commercial blacklip abalone fishery in State waters off the upper east coast of Tasmania

 

Rule 9(1) of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017

 

Pursuant to the powers under the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 ("the Rules") that were delegated to the Director (Marine Resources) on 2 July 2018 by the Minister acting pursuant to section 20(1) of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 ("the Act"), under rule 9(1) of the Rules:

 

1.    I determine that the dates of closing of the commercial blacklip abalone fishery in State waters off the upper east coast of Tasmania to the activities of the take of blacklip abalone (Haliotis rubra) by the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) are as follow:

 

from 6 August 2018 to 31 December 2018 inclusive; and

 

2.    I also determine that, from the date stated in 1. above, the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) while on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking blacklip abalone (Haliotis rubra) must not enter the water, by swimming or diving, in the closed area stated in 1. above;

 

where “State waters off the upper east coast of Tasmania" is defined to mean: State waters off the upper east coast of Tasmania bounded in the north by the line of latitude 41o 16' 31.97" South at St Helens Point and bounded in the south by the line of latitude 41o 47' 20.04" South at Douglas River.

 

Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice as it has in the Act or the Rules.

INFORMATION

The commercial blacklip abalone fishery in State waters off the upper east coast of Tasmania from St Helens Point to Douglas River is being closed from 6 August 2018 until 31 December 2018 inclusive in the interest of resource sustainability. The closure includes sub-blocks 28C, 29A, 29B, 29C and 29D only.
