NOTICE OF THE DATES OF THE CLOSED SEASON FOR THE COMMERCIAL GREENLIP ABALONE FISHERY AND NOTICE OF ABALONE FISHERY CLOSURE TO SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
I, Dr Ian Dutton, Director (Marine Resources) in the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister for Primary Industries and Water made on 12 November 2018 and acting pursuant to section 20(1) of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 (the Act), hereby determine under rule 9 of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 (the Rules):
A. That the dates of the closed season for that part of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are from 12:01 am 29 September 2019 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2019; and
B. That the part of the abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 is closed to, or in respect of, the activities specified in schedule 2.
All that part of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters adjacent to the north-west and west coasts of mainland Tasmania bounded in the west by the line of longitude 144° East, bounded in the south by the line of latitude 44° South, bounded in the east by an imaginary line commencing at the intersection of the line of longitude 145° 06' 17.82" East and the line of latitude 40° 17' 06.77" South, then running due south to the line of latitude 40° 40' 53.37" South, then running due west to the line of high water at Guyton Point, then following the line of high water in an approximately north-west direction to Little Creek, then running due west to the line of longitude 144° 51' 01.60" East, then running due south to where it meets the high watermark on mainland Tasmania (~ at point of latitude 40° 44' 20.02" South), then following the line of high water approximately west and south to the line of longitude 145° 06' 17.82" East via Woolnorth Point, then running due south to the line of latitude 44° South, and bounded in the north by the line of latitude 40° 17' 06.77" South.
While on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking greenlip abalone (Haliotis laevigata) the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) must not enter the water by swimming or diving.
Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice.

The commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off the north-west coast of Tasmania is being closed to control the total amount of greenlip abalone harvested in this area. The closed area relates to commercial fishing for greenlip abalone in fishing blocks 48 (except for sub-block 48A), 49 and 5 and down the west coast from 12:01 am 29 September 2019 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2019.
