NOTICE OF THE DATES OF THE CLOSED SEASON FOR THE COMMERCIAL GREENLIP ABALONE FISHERY AND NOTICE OF ABALONE FISHERY CLOSURE TO SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES

 

I, Dr Ian Dutton, Director (Marine Resources) in the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister for Primary Industries and Water made on 12 November 2018 and acting pursuant to section 20(1) of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 (the Act), hereby determine under rule 9 of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 (the Rules):

A.    that the dates of the closed season for that part of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are from 12:01 am 7 September 2019 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2019; and

B.     that the part of the abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 is closed to, or in respect of, the activities specified in schedule 2.

 

SCHEDULE 1

All that part of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off King Island enclosed by an imaginary line commencing where the line of latitude 39° 42' 58.83" South meets the high water mark at Whistler Point, then following the line of high water in a generally clockwise direction around King Island to the line of latitude 40° 03' 52.41" South, then following that line of latitude due west to the line of longitude 143° 43' 08.25" East, then running due south to the line of latitude 40° 15' 18.26" South, then running due east to the line of longitude 144° 11' 06.41" East, then running due north to the line of latitude 39° 30' 43.04" South, then running due west to the line of longitude 143° 43' 08.25" East, then running due south to the line of latitude 39° 42' 58.83" South, then running directly back to the point of commencement.

 

SCHEDULE 2

While on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking greenlip abalone (Haliotis laevigata) the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) must not enter the water by swimming or diving.

Part of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off King Island is being closed. The following sub-blocks will close to commercial fishing for greenlip abalone from 12:01 am 7 September 2019 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2019: 1A, 1B, 3C, 4C and 4B. The result is that only the following sub-blocks will remain open to commercial fishing for greenlip abalone off King Island from 12:01 am 7 September 2019: sub-blocks 1C, 3A and 3B.​
