NOTICE OF THE DATES OF THE CLOSED SEASON FOR THE COMMERCIAL BLACKLIP ABALONE FISHERY AND NOTICE OF ABALONE FISHERY CLOSURE TO SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
I, Dr Ian Dutton, Director (Marine Resources) in the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister for Primary Industries and Water made on 12 November 2018 and acting pursuant to section 20(1) of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 (the Act), hereby determine under rule 9 of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 (the Rules):
- that the dates of the closed season for those parts of the commercial blacklip abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are from 12:01 am 4 October 2020 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2020; and
- that the parts of the abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are closed to, or in respect of, the activities specified in schedule 2.
All those parts of the commercial blacklip abalone fishery in State waters:
- off the east coast of Flinders Island within an area enclosed by an imaginary line commencing where the point of latitude 40o 01' 01.21" South meets the high water mark on Planter Beach, then running due east to the line of longitude 148o 36' 10.44" East, then running due north to the line of latitude 39o 48' 00.27" South, then running directly to the high water mark on the northern tip of Red Bluff, then following the line of high water generally east and south to the point of commencement; and
- off the upper east coast of Tasmania bounded in the north by the line of latitude 41o 16' 31.97" South at St Helens Point and bounded in the south by the line of latitude 41o 44' 53.41" South at Long Point.
While on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking blacklip abalone (Haliotis rubra) the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) must not enter the water by swimming or diving.
Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice.

The commercial blacklip abalone fishery in State waters around Babel Island is being closed. The following sub-block will close to commercial fishing for blacklip abalone from 12:01 am 4 October 2020 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2020: sub-block 38A only.
The commercial blacklip abalone fishery in State waters from Long Point (Seymour) northwards to St Helens Point is being closed. The following sub-blocks will close to commercial fishing for blacklip abalone from 12:01 am 4 October 2020 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2020: sub-blocks 29A, 29B, 29C and 29D only.
