NOTICE OF THE DATES OF THE CLOSED SEASON FOR THE COMMERCIAL BLACKLIP ABALONE FISHERY AND NOTICE OF ABALONE FISHERY CLOSURE TO SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES

 

I, Dr Ian Dutton, Director (Marine Resources) in the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister for Primary Industries and Water made on 12 November 2018 and acting pursuant to section 20(1) of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 (the Act), hereby determine under rule 9 of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 (the Rules):

  1. that the dates of the closed season for those parts of the commercial blacklip abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are from 12:01 am 15 November 2021 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2021; and

     
  2. that the parts of the abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are closed to, or in respect of, the activities specified in schedule 2.

 

SCHEDULE 1

All that part of the commercial blacklip abalone fishery in State waters off the south-east coast of Tasmania within an area bounded by an imaginary line commencing where the line of latitude 43° 04' 24.80" South meets the high water mark at Outer North Head, then running due west to the line of longitude 147° 34' 50.48" East, then running due south to the line of latitude 43° 18' 07.86" South, then running due east to the line of longitude 147° 47' 58.74" East, then running due north to the high water mark at Cape Raoul, then following the line of high water generally north-west back to the point of commencement.

 

SCHEDULE 2

While on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking blacklip abalone (Haliotis rubra) the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) must not enter the water by swimming or diving.

Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice.

The commercial blacklip abalone fishery in State waters off the south-east coast of Tasmania is being closed from 12:01 am 15 November 2021 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2021 as part of arrangements to control the total amount of blacklip abalone harvested in this area in the interest of resource sustainability. This closed area relates to commercial blacklip abalone fishing in fishing sub-blocks 20A, 20B and 20C only.
