NOTICE OF THE DATES OF THE CLOSED SEASON FOR THE COMMERCIAL BLACKLIP ABALONE FISHERY AND NOTICE OF ABALONE FISHERY CLOSURE TO SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
I, Ian Dutton, Director Marine Resources in the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister for Primary Industries and Water made on 12 November 2018 and acting pursuant to section 20(1) of the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 (the Act), hereby determine under rule 9 of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 (the Rules):
A. That the dates of the closed season for that part of the commercial blacklip abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are from 12:01 am 12 February 2022 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2022; and
B. That the part of the abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 is closed to, or in respect of, the activities specified in schedule 2.
All that part of the commercial blacklip abalone fishery in State waters off the south-west coast of Tasmania bounded in the east by the line of high water running between Faults Bay and South West Cape, bounded in the west by the outer limit of State waters, bounded in the north by the line of latitude 43° 25' 42.59" South running due west from the high water mark in Faults Bay and bounded in the south by the line of latitude 43° 34' 16.12" South running due west from the high water mark at South West Cape.
While on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking blacklip abalone (Haliotis rubra) the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) must not enter the water by swimming or diving.
Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Act or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice.

The commercial blacklip abalone fishery in State waters off the south-west coast of Tasmania is being closed to control the total amount of blacklip abalone harvested in this area. The closed area relates to commercial fishing for blacklip abalone in fishing sub-block 12A only from 12:01 am 12 February 2022 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2022.
