NOTICE OF THE DATES OF THE CLOSED SEASON FOR THE COMMERCIAL GREENLIP ABALONE FISHERY AND NOTICE OF ABALONE FISHERY CLOSURE TO SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
I, Dr Ian Dutton, General Manager (Marine Resources) in the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister for Primary Industries and Water, hereby determine under rule 9 of the Fisheries (Abalone) Rules 2017 (the Rules):
A. That the dates of the closed season for that part of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 are from 12:01 am 30 September 2023 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2023; and
B. That the part of the abalone fishery specified in schedule 1 is closed to, or in respect of, the activities specified in schedule 2.
SCHEDULE 1
All that part of the commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off the east coast of King Island bounded in the north by the line of longitude 143° 56' 57.35" East and bounded in the south by the line of longitude 143° 56' 27.38" East.
SCHEDULE 2
While on a commercial fishing trip in State waters for the purpose of taking greenlip abalone (Haliotis laevigata) the holder of a fishing licence (abalone dive) must not enter the water by swimming or diving.
All coordinates of latitude and longitude specified in this notice are to be determined by reference to the Geocentric Datum of Australia (also known as "the GDA" or "GDA94") as defined in the Commonwealth Gazette No. GN 35, 6 September 1995.
Any expression used in this notice having a particular meaning under the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 or the Rules has the same meaning in this notice.

The commercial greenlip abalone fishery in State waters off the east coast of King Island is being closed. The following blocks will close to commercial fishing for greenlip abalone from 12:01 am 30 September 2023 to 11:59 pm 31 December 2023: block 2 and block 4 only.
