Formerly known as the Female Factory Research Group (FFRG), the Group fosters research into the lives and experiences of convict women and their children in Van Diemen's Land, and into the Female Factories that housed them. Membership is open to anyone interested in this research. The group provides a discussion forum, maintains the Female Factory Research Group, runs a research and transcription service, and hosts events celebrating the lives of female convicts

Eight volumes relate to the bushrangers Brady, Macabe, Perry, Geffreys, Britton and others; one volume is devoted to Tasmanian Aborigines
